अन्नाद्भूतानि जायन्ते जातानान्यनेन वर्धन्ते अन्नं हि भूतानां ज्येष्ठं तस्मात्सर्वोषधमुच्यते (तैत्तरीय उपनिषद २.२.१) the verse from Taittiraya Upanishad says that our life from birth till we breath last sustains and survives consuming food hence, food is the eldest among all of us and is the first and ultimate medicine. The western medicine is now recognizing this fact and has started now calling "Food is medicine" (1) and has opened advocating "a plateful of medicine" as special diets that might boost the power of drugs (2). Through our research, we have been promoting that our food.dietary items are not only the means for providing us nutrition and energy, but also contain number of phytochemicals of immense medicinal value. The global outbursts of metabolic disorders are now being considered manageable through consumption of healthy food.
