Why Ameyalife School Health

Prevalence of obesity in school going children has risen drastically in India during the past few years.

Studies have shown that Childhood obesity has been associated with many chronic disorders like type 2 diabetes mellitus, the early-onset metabolic syndrome, subclinical inflammation, dyslipidemia, coronary artery diseases, and adulthood obesity.

• High-risk screening and effective health educational programs are the need of the hour.

• A recent study on urban Indian school children showed that there was an improvement in behavior & knowledge of about 40-70% among school children after medical education for prevention of obesity & diabetes.

• Therefore school health of Ameya Life is a right initiative to opt for tackling this rising issue.

• High risk screening & effective health educational programs are the need of the hour to tackle CHILDHOOD OBESITY & prevent disorders like heart disease & diabetes in adulthood. Proper nutritional guidance will be provided to prevent under or over nutrition.

• VISION DISORDERS are often not complained of by the student therefore early detection could prevent underperformance in school.

• Learning impairment could occur due to minor problems of the ear , appropriate screening for HEARING PROBLEMS helps to solve this issue.

• Dental caries & malocclusion are prevalent among school children , proper screening & continuous education about DENTAL HEALTH could help reduce the burden of caries.

• Psychological screening to detect LEARNING DISORDERS in childhood & appropriate focus on ADOLESCENT HEALTH issues like substance abuse & changing physical needs would lead to a bright career of the student.

Vision

Refractory errors or the need for spectacles is one of the most important causes of poor vision in school children. School pupils often don’t complain about their visual impairment which often leads to underperformance in school. Apart from screening for refractory errors the Ameya school health also screens for squint/crossed eyes, amblyopia/lazy eye which are issues among this age group.

Hearing

Screening for hearing loss among school children by our team could detect the cause which is usually ear wax or middle ear infection or foreign body via appropriate referral.

• This could further prevent learning impairment due to prolonged reduced hearing.

Dental health

Dental caries & malocclusion is very prevalent among school children, proper screening & education could help reduce the burden of caries.

Young people between the ages of 10 and 19 years – during the transition from childhood to adulthood, adolescents establish patterns of behavior and make lifestyle choices that affect both their current and future health. Serious health and safety issues such as motor vehicle crashes, violence, substance use, and risky sexual behaviours can adversely affect adolescent and young adults are either preventable or treatable.

Some adolescents also struggle to adopt behaviors that could decrease their risk of developing chronic diseases in adulthood, such as eating nutritiously, engaging in physical activity, and choosing not to use tobacco.

Environmental factors such as family, peer group, school, and community characteristics also contribute to adolescents’ health and risk behaviors. Providing safe and nurturing environments for our nation’s youth can help ensure that adolescents will be healthy and productive members of society

The financial burdens of preventable health problems in adolescence are large and include the long-term costs of chronic diseases that are a result of behaviors begun during adolescence. For example, the annual adult health-related financial burden of cigarette smoking, which usually starts by age 18,19, 20 .
